No! BNP is a new-age political party with a thoroughly professional approach to conducting its affairs. As an integral part of its professional approach, BNP accepts donations only digitally or through cheques and does not accept any donation in cash. Even more importantly, BNP’s accounts are audited by a professional audit firm every year and the audited accounts are transparently published on its website, not only for its members & donors, but for the entire world!

NO! If you are not an Indian Citizen, you cannot donate to the BNP. BNP (as well as all political parties) are eligible to receive donations only from Indian Citizens. However, you can encourage your friends who are Indian citizens to donate to BNP.

YES! If you are an NRI or a PIO who has retained Indian Citizenship, you are fully eligible to donate to a political party like BNP. However, you can donate only from a Non-Resident Ordinary Rupee Account (NRO Account, in short). The NRO Account is a Rupee denominated account with income earned in India. Unlike some other accounts of yours, which will have your foreign earnings.

BNP cannot receive funds from your accounts in which your foreign earnings accrue, like Non-Resident (External) Rupee Account (NRE Account, in short) & Foreign Currency (Non-Resident) Account (Banks) (FCNR (B) Account, in short). You are fully eligible to donate from your NRO Account but cannot donate from your NRE or FCNR (B) Account.

YES! Under Section 80GGB (applicable for companies) & Section 80GGC (applicable for individuals), any amount contributed to an electoral trust or a registered political party (as per Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951) can be claimed as a tax deduction. The donations made under Section 80GGB / 80GGC of Income Tax Act are 100% tax deductible. Given that BNP is a registered political party with the Election Commission of India, all donations to BNP are 100% tax deductible.

NO! Section 80GGC (applicable for individuals) & Section 80GGB (applicable for companies), does not specify any limit for deductions on contributions made to electoral trusts or registered political parties. Hence, there is no upper limit for claiming tax deductions on donations to BNP subject, of course, to the limit that your deduction cannot be more than your taxable income.

NO! 80G certification is NOT required for BNP, as well as all political parties, since they are not charitable organizations. Tax deductions on donations made to political parties are governed by Section 13A of the Income Tax Act, which automatically enables you to claim tax deductions on your donations to BNP. All that you need to claim your tax deduction in your annual tax returns is the donation receipt provided by BNP containing its Registration No., PAN No. & your name.

NO! Form 10BE is NOT required for claiming deductions under 80GGB or 80GGC. Form 10BE applies only to 80G-registered charitable institutions and NOT political parties. To claim deductions, donors must donate through non-cash modes (cheque, bank transfer or digital payment). Hence, the donation receipt from BNP is sufficient for claiming deductions.

NO! The IT Department keeps sending mails from time to time requesting tax-payers to verify their claims and giving an opportunity for them to rectify their mistakes if they have made a wrongful claim. Since you are eligible to claim tax deductions under Section 80GGB / Section 80GGC for donations made to registered political parties, there is no mistake in your claim. This is just a routine communication from the IT Department and there is nothing more to be done from your side.

Political parties are not allowed to set up a recurring payment for donations on their website and hence the payment gateways do not enable that option for parties like BNP on our website. The best way for you to set it up is to create a standing instruction for recurring donations to the BNP Account from your Bank Account. Alternatively, you can communicate to our team on info@nammabnp.org to send periodic reminders through email and we can facilitate that too.
